True Grit - Treasure Hunt - coming soon

a vague rambling adventure across 3 countries so far ....

Wandering around as i tend to do whilst trying the shake off the lingering tendrils of traumatic experience and loves reluctantly lost , i potter , i observe, i survey and i make my little notes and diary entries , either written odes and reflections , little paintings and pontifications ...or picking up an interesting rock from whatever vantage i happen to be over looking whichever vista ....

in doing so , over these passed couple of years, ive managed to amass quite the understanding of my local terrain ,indeed - revisiting an old childhood interest and passion , and whilst re walking these miles well covered , reminiscing as i go , previous mentors - Jerry Turner , proffessor of geology , former merchantman , the proprietor of the little rock shop in dobwalls theme park in the early nineteen nineties...and my first proper saturday job at the time ....

Tom Mcracken , owner and proprietor of the Tiffany Gallery in Looe , the longest running independent art gallery in south east Cornwall, untill tom passed away and the legacy of the gallery ,and the cache of my own transient stock for many years ...came to an end with barely a mention and the toen turned into a bourgeoise ghost of itself ....

countless other , red faced , whiskery outdoorsy types that i was firtunate enough to spend time on the trail with ... so all of these miles, shrouded in a fond nostalgia and memories if epic adventures with both friend and foe ,have led us here ...the dusk months of this year of the water rabbit ....and its almost time to put the tree up again and huddle in for the worst of the winter months ...

as such , we are busy at work prepping and sorting through the usual seasonal collectors sets of the various product lines that have to be kicked out to whatever distribution network is left out of this 15 year ongoing recession .... so , the Original Arts Hole international pop up initiative - Mining Company, presents

ILL - Iterate

oh yeah .... if you didnt already know , i write stuff down sometimes , and these little tirades of, occasionally rehearsed internal monologue ...occaisonally go from chatting away to myself as i saunter about in pursuit of interestung rocks , views and to a lesser degree , peoples , to making a note of it in the sketchbook , to doing a quick digital mash up of that original notation on some social media platform while i wait for a train , or a plane or the rain to pass ....up until the online saftey bill passed , it was wuite a handy way to do quick drafts on the move, you could just quickly type simething out in blogger or somewhere and copy and paste and re edit later, indeed , during this years ' Lets AV it ' exhibition and workshop series, i have clearly demonstrated how that can be used as an effective mechanism for even long winded emails amid important correspondence, as when you are zipping about with a wavering signal , sometimes a delay in a hotmail signal can see entire paragraphs vanish in an instant , such a marvellous technological age we live in ....ahem .

...and since the advent of this inline safety bill, my online interactions have been hindered to say the least , and now its actually in effect ....jeez , the configurations of everything are all buggered right up ! still , on we go despite the limitations .

the latest edition of the ' tales from...' series will be ready to distribute next year - " tales from the year of the water Rabbit ".will be out next spring .

touching wood and fingers crossed there will be several anniversary dates next year too - 2024 will be the 25th Anniversary of the " 101 Reasons to choose a vocation in the creative industries ".

the 25th Anniversary for the original " Art by Valerio " branding initiative including the original ' Cornish Buddies' branding drive .- the 20th Anniversary of the original birth of ' the Original Arts Hole - international pop up initiative .- and 10th Anniversary of my first Plymouth city council induced nervous breakdown .- the 5th anniversary of the previous plymouth city council induced nervous breakdown .-

....its been a mad one , this year of the water rabbit - alot has certainly changed in the last year , and we arent quite out of the woods yet ! .-

The Signature Style

Part of the ongoing body of works that have been come to be known as ' the Valerio Signature Style ' that has now come to encompass independent sub headings within the genre, including , ' The mandalas ' , ' The Orgy Balls ' , ' Studies of the Female Form ' , ' Cerebral ' and ' Unorthodox'

A manner of works I began working on as a child , to attempt to keep away from over embellishing them or over anthropomorphising or patterning , just to stay in the most grounding earthy tones and let the mind wander through the undulations to assist in the firing of the imagination

After studying at Plymouth College of Art and Design, Valerio continued his studies at Sheffield Hallam University and Greenwich University and West Kent College.

Now based between his studio in Cornwall and Amsterdam, he is able to collaborate with some of the best known names in Art and Architecture on an international scale as well as here at home in the south west.

Valerio Describes his own work as ' dreamlike manifestations, evoking less than circumstantial references to archetypal memories of landscapes, and local geographies, figurative studies and all in between that which is captured in the veld of the diverse experiences that make up a lifetime.'

Valerio has been a keen art student. he has made excellent progress, demonstrating an imaginative and innovative response to a variety of stimuli, and has produced some outstanding units of course work.

Valerio has improved his ability to draw from observation with increasing skill and enjoys working in a variety of media, he has shown ability to draw from experience and imagination. Valerio has produced paintings of unusual quality, and shows a real awareness of the use of colour. His heightened critical awareness of other artists and cultures is an integral and successful aspect of his own work and he works well independently. Valerio's talent recommends him without question.

What do you make of the artist as a person?

Valerio , the man is a Raving Maniac, A genuine charicature of what an artist should be, hes eloquent and polite soft spoken and gentile , unless he is working on something of particular focus then he can be irritable , and unreasonable , never knowing if he is about to burst into song , or scream and shout a series of profanities against whatever is vexing him most at the time, even visitors to the gallery , ever outspoken and provocative toward debate, the constant array of models and well wishers that tend to come with the Artists Gallery appearances , can make even a quiet day seem lively!

Elusive is something of an understatement with this Artist and appearances are Rare as are his lectures and public exposures but a keen collaborator you will find the signature Valerio influence in many places you really wouldnt be expecting to find it, A very strong talent for such a young Artist already exhibiting his well developed style so that it is instantly recognizable, a Talent and a Character rapidly gaining in influence and popularity, and deservedly so!

101 Reasons....

From the series of sketchbook illustrations that eventually became the published book of illustrations ' 101 Reasons to choose a vocation in the creative industries ' the original series started out as a series of autobiographical sidenotes in my working sketchbooks, a clear homage to the work of Ralph Steadman and Hunter Thompson, are little cartoons I have been doing during those moments when you say to yourself ' what the actual F**k ??!!' which can happen a lot in this job !! the original set of sketchbook thumbnails were each revised for the publication and have always proved a great hit in their own right whenever they have gone on display at exhibition . Now in the 11th year of ongoing production, the series now consists of over 200 hundred images depicting recollections or reflections from Working Corporate positions in 2000 -my first pop up gallery ' The Arts Hole in Cornwall '2006- 'The Green Star House ' Design and build Project 2009- through the political and legal battles of the 'Valerio Institute'2013- to our most recent projects of ' Why Not ' in Amsterdam and the latest ART B&B and education projects running in parallel in Cornwall u.k and Amsterdam N.L 2016/2017 It Really has been quite a ride
