So two years ago today my brother from another mother passed away
Apparently he had eaten too many egg sandwiches and his heart couldn't take it ...he always seemed pretty healthy to me, all the years that we don't climbing trees and cliff facias and he was always carrying , catching and cajoling his many children around on top of the miles we would often cover
I had my doubts about diet being the issue ...
The first time I met Sam I don't even have a solid memory of it , apparently though , as we drive into the road into the estate there is this kid sat there on some steep concrete steps , wearing only a pair of shorts and holding a big stick , as we drive by mum smiled at him and he stuck his tongue out
Lord of the flies , ....we ended up more like ' the Goonies ' and ' stand by me ' ( two olden day films : ask your mum )
The estate was overlooking a beautiful ancient woodland and estuary , the back garden to the new place backed right onto this vast set of wooded valleys ....this was our land , our lair ...sited right there on the coast and surrounded by smugglers cottages and tunnels , mine buildings , old industrial buildings , boats ,guns, explosives and wilderness , low tides , high tides ...and an island just offshore that was just close enough that you could walk to it once a year on an especially low neep tide . The island itself featured in Arthurian legend,and a documented history of chapels , smugglers and shipwrecks ....
This is where me and your dad forged our childhood and teens , a tow of rag tagged children from the neighbourhood or one of you as you each were growing up
Christmas was always a big deal for Sam , dad would always go all out at Christmas and Sam would always be keen to help decorate anything with tinsel and always enjoyed the rapport he had with my own dad and Sam was really a big part of our family ...so much so that one year my, nan , asked my mum 'when did you have the other one that's always in all the family photos '
Movie theatre trips , local theme parks , beaches , dog walks or just kicking around our habitat ... The sprawling jungle that lay before us at the bottom of the garden , and in the summer ...it was a jungle , unkempt , ivy strewn and interesting , deep jungly valleys and huge rocky outcrops overlooking the ever changing blues and greys of the sea
I recall one particular day , me and your dad were making our way back along the coast and we were taking our time smoking en route , and we got cut off by the incoming tide , as was sometimes the case ...we got to a place where there were two particularly large outcrops that went out deeper into the sea than we were wanting to wade on that particular day , the first outcrop hides the second from view from ground level and in-between there is a small pebble beach cove with a path up to a couple of houses which sit just stop the cliff " no public access "
So anyway , me and your dad start to climb over the first outcrop so that we can get over into the cove and have another joint out of the wind , and see if the tide continues to drop or not in which case we scale the second outcrop on the way back down the coast so we get to the top of the first outcrop and look down into the little sheltered bay below , ...., on the fare side of the cove there are a couple of guys all done up in all the climbing gear , ropes and pulleys and all that stuff , climbing the second outcrop
So me and Sam make our way down into the cove and stop in the beach , it's tiny this cove ...maybe only 20 to 25 metres across
We look up at the guys climbing up the next outcrop , and making damn heavy work of it I'd say ...
" best not spark it here, eh ? "
So over we go , start climbing and , you should have seen the look on these two guys faces as me and your dad overtook them , bidded them good afternoon, as we casually pottered off over the crest of the second outcrop and away a little further to find somewhere else to smoke on the way back to town ,
Town was a ancient and quant little fishing village , brimming with character and characters...still full of fishermen with traditional little fishing boats and farmers that still rode only horses and tractors to get about ...but the spiders legs of adventures that could be had off and away from the town were epic
When we were about 9 or 10 or so , we took it upon ourselves , well your dad mostly , took it upon himself to dismantle by hand an old factory that was locally refereed to as the crab factory , as it had previously been used in more industrially prosperous time to process the crab catches from the boats that would land in the harbour , there were a few old dilapidated buildings in that little enclave of hardstanding amid the woods , just off one of the main estuary contributories ...and if you cut behind the buildings , just up the hill and through a bit of the woods you would get to 'the circle bank ' a span of open but steep ground that would get you to ' the circle ' ,a section of road in a stepped estate in the hill , basically the social centre of our little neighbourhood , it was basically a car turning circle section of an otherwise one way , single lane road ...
But it was where the neighbourhood kids would play football and ride their bikes ...it had a lamppost, perfect for for the childhood game we used to call ' 123 in ' a low wall that ran the whole way around one half of the drop side of the turning circle where mums would keep an eye on the younger ones out learning to ride bikes and all that stuff ... It was also a battle ground , fueds of great length and severity could and would take place , not just amongst the kids , but most certainly the adults too
Thankfully we were young ,when, one of he times me and your dad were having a falling out , as we often were over marbles or girls..but it never lasted long , your dad was one of the few people I could tolerate for any length of time , anyway ,we were passing one day in the circle and amid a feud I think your dad said something to me , or I said something to him and we've gone for each other ,he's got an ice-cream in one hand and a big stick , like a staff ,...a tree branch really ,in the other hand ..again we often were armed with something - when we were young it was big sticks and catapults , as we got older is was bows and rifles ...
So, I think to myself , alright he's one handed at least , so I've barged into him and he's dropped his ice cream ...but he's still got the stick ....
Bastard cracked me right in top off the head with the stick didn't he ...
Many miles, by land and sea ...and many a maiden, by the same means ... when we got a little older and started drinking and looking for girls as young lads do , we had 10 holiday parks but a few miles down the road in every direction , a summers tourist season on the beach ....This was our world , all of it and they are memories I cherish Fondly
Amid this landscape , before mobile phones , when we used to memorize the numbers for the phone box nearest to the places our mates would hang out....archaic stuff
After school , and later on as a drunken mission through heavy terrain for , a Christmas tree ...or an old boat wreck , abandoned car or , an interesting thing or an unusual something or just for the hell of it ...a holla , a great bellowing yell ...right down the valley of inquiry
Stand at the edge of the woods , at the river level ...take a deep breath , .....and holla

Give it a second as the call echoes off down the valley ...then a response !

It was a consistent means of communication , for years ! Locate your pal and which ever interesting thing has been found , using acoustic orienteering !
And I can't not mention, the premise of a knife having a " Sammy guarantee " or being, or not being " Sammy Proof " if you buy a new knife , a blade of any kind actually , you would let your Dad use it, if it's still in one piece after ten minutes , it'll last you years ....
Many years later after we'd been away off to various places in and out of various cities and relationships , we met back up in the seaside town we grew up in
And I think Sam was working in a production and refinement plant position down in Cornwall , I think I had just come back from somewhere or other on some phantom contract that got me in a corner I had to get out of ...we were sat like a pair of old men at 25 or so

Everywhere I go on my own little missions , even to this day , I still have the image in my mind's eye from way back when ,we were children in our own Robinson Crusoe adventure, ...climbing an endless hill in the Cornish countryside, in the roasting heat of the day , or the driving rain in the middle of the night to reach the top and figure out where the bloody hell we are ..
It may seem like a fickle thing right now , and I know your dad , didn't have his own dad around when he was growing up and it would pain him dearly to know of each of you wanting him around and him not being able to be there, he was your father , my brother ,and make no mistake you are your father's children , and as he always made me proud , with his honour , his integrity and his sense of humour his rebelliousness and his recklessness I know that each of you will make him proud even if he can't be around to help you along as he would have wanted to do , but you've got his strength , his wilfulness , his stubborn Ness too ...so watch out for that ! And you have a wonderful Mum who needs you too , You got this ! not only because of the stuff you are made of , but also because of who YOU are !

The council have technically issued an admission of guilt, so I have set up a series of official police complaints which gives me the necessary case numbers to process as a legal sequestration...so all's going ok , I think , touch wood 😬
The revolution , well Neil Oliver and Russell brand are doing some sterling work and I understand that the stepford council walked out and abandoned Thier monthly meeting whilst being challenged on certain issues - got to see if I can get Plymouth to do the same now
The police have publicly stated that they will no longer offer armed response or support against protest movements and the military have been instructed to take up that remit - but they don't seem keen
So yes , there's plenty going on 😁

I'm starting giving a series of 3 x 2 hours introduction into doing art classes.
From there I am proposing offering ongoing teaching, into personal development along lines of their individual interest.
Assuming there may be a follow up with that, and I could teach to a few people (3-6) within a group, how much do you think I could charge per person for a series of 2-3 hour sessions?
Possibly a 5 session series set on a programme, possibly weekly, or fortnightly?
My church is encouraging me and giving me the venue to open this out initially within their building.
I would appreciate any helpful advice or comments you could add, from your experience.

There's a series of 7 diminishing Fibonacci sequence of squares that create the spiral, all spaced on the 1-1.6 rectangle.
Then the squares are coloured as Mondrian would have done with his pallet.

A few years ago when a weird government backed initiative started trying to employ pretty much any one of my contemporaries as a makeshift mascot for their strange little property development projects ... Every single time I was tied up over giving the council a legal kicking regarding some humanitarian issue or blatant corruption charges , lo and behold , they would give a building to some corporation to start an arts collective , or suddenly have a mad dash attempt at running parallel operations , stuffing little boutique's into odd locations , weird little allegiances forming ' liberal arts collectives ' mural groups , mindful art Ness ( all really great at banging tambourines and paying the applicable rents rates and tax homages on their beverages and rainbow flags , sitting like well behaved children with a colouring book - but instead of a colouring book , it's grant funding applications - please sir , can I have some more? ....after more than 15 years of ideological austerity, recessions , credit crunches , brexits and pandemics ....please sir , can I have some more ? You people are the fucking end of the world personified as a veritable braying pack of village idiots ...and you don't even know it , well maybe you do but you just don't care -out there competing over percentages and likes and target audience optimisations ....your all fucking mental !!! )

The knee jerk reaction - tells me that everyone is a little tense right now - I'm a little offended that you feel I would belittle anyone's efforts beyond a respective level of professional competitive contempt ... But come on we are in the arts , and maker , Wel as I do reflect ...personally I've got mixed feelings about how everything went all council affiliated national trust model , I know everyone that lives somewhere for a long time gets all precious and defensive at a whiff of criticism - I find it everywhere I go , and the rame peninsula is one of many intrinsically beautiful and interesting places , filled with beautiful and interesting souls...and yes we are all trying to make a living , but a point if many that I'm making is that not everyone has a government funded project in a beauty spot , with a well established , well intentioned volunteers ( or as I reflected in conversations with your dad ) the new wave of English peasantry that are charged with building back better , keeping calm and carrying on .... So that estate agents have perks to put in the brochures as we are all priced out if living here.... Personally I'm not too bad actually ....thank you, the long-winded complaint I've maintained against Plymouth city council seems to have escalated into something if epic proportions , it's a lottery sized law suit for sure , so I'm looking to buy a couple of houses to run as my own weird little offbeat studios , I formed a teacher's union, I'm in the process of incorporating a place of worship ( as a demonstrative example of non compliance with council tax 😆 ) , and I've just started to mint some silver coins out of the silver ore about the place ...of course still painting and designing this and that the current exhibition is certainly an Avant Garde affair ( I'll send a link ) , as always completely unappreciated in my own time ,

After the brexit referendum the u.k economy lost a third of its value on the international exchange , this coupled with variable mitigations meant that the gallery I had spent time setting up in Amsterdam was compromised by such a reduction in value of established British sales , that as a cost saving measure I traded a 30 ' yacht for a painting and took up residence on the Millbrook estuary .
Your local artist and resident Merv has been a long term friend if mine from when we both used to be able to afford studios down in Looe , some tears ago - until the bourgeois gentrification ended up pricing quite a few artists out of Thier long term studio spaces ( a phenomenon you can observe in many of our coastal towns and villages over the past 20 or so years )
When I first arrived back at maker the atmosphere was still akin to the old ' sunshine festival ' ambience ... Hippie's were occupying old mod spaces on the fringe edge of a dirt road ( a sadly reduced characteristic these days )
I happened to be present as the Plymouth city council and dawn french influence undermined the then squatting of the random arms and the barrack block
Rosie , for all of her white bread efforts was appointed head of arts at the museum huts
Plymouth city council , dawn french and the ongoing threat from the corporate property developers managed to reign in the rebellion and organize the strange - national trust type business model that seems to be offering peasants opportunity to work the land for the new waves of landed gentry here in Boris Johnsons brexit Britain - all with eligibility for existing funding models
As I look out across what's left of if this hardened coastal landscape .... I despair 😔
I honestly , mean no offense to anyone seeking to be entrepreneurial , or looking to build back better out of the piggy bank budgets of congenial Councilors and the mud bricks of an otherwise erstwhile working class
But I do see you , leadworks over in Rendell street would be another government funded " youth club with a bar " easily marketable as a hip and happening little joint
Beacons , for ever increasing waves of digital analysts , financial advisors , logistics specialists and salary secured administrators of every urban hell Scape in the country , to stop by and think to themselves
Why don't we sell up our overpriced domicile in the sprawling suburbs of wherever ....come down here , buy a boat and gang out in these little hipster joints that syphoned off money we used to spend on public services for these tourist attractions that look like grass roots enterprise's ...and are in fact excellent ways for us to price ourselves out if being able to live in these places

Hmmm- I see we’re both mistaken. We’re nothing to do with the buying up and gentrification of maker. Merve is my Best friend’s dad and we’re a collective of local people who all grew up here (apart from myself who married one of those who happened to marry a millbrook man 10 years ago.) we were in opposition to the buying up of maker. We’re running a CIC to hold space for the local community and offer artists and musicians an outlet to share and express their art as well as a place that is still open and accessible to local people rather than turned into privatized land. Not self congratulating- just very proud and in love with our community and wanting to offer them as much access and support as we can. You seem to have us mistaken with someone else.

We’re also fiercely protective of our artists and friends, and seeing laughing emojis on the posts celebrating a wonderful local artist felt like she was being disrespected, and she doesn’t deserve that. She’s also been a good friend of the beaver family for many years.
I hope we’re seeing eye to eye now and that maybe you might be moved to support us or at the very least sympathize with our efforts. I was further disheartened during the summer fracas of social media interactions that resulted in the sequences of blocks and unblocks , but I am glad to see that I am no longer completely censored from offering insightful comments on these online platforms

I consider it fascinating , the man is paid handsomely to deliver ....well , as far as I'm concerned that remains to be seen as from my experiences I can personally attest the man's apparent uselessness in pretty much every conceivable outlet and application , I understand the man , from his recent property acquisition, is teaching a funded course in wooden spoon whittling ... No doubt that's going to be a big help in the systemic reduction of homelessness . His one single skill as far as I have observed would be attempting to maintain operations for homelessness provision via zoom and working out questionable deals with Plymouth city council - I hope the freemasons annual contribution if 20k a year to keep this Mickey mouse outfit going is considered worthwhile expenditure , I am aware of this as it was down to the efforts if myself and my little union of now former tutors and volunteers that were in fact responsible for keeping the doors open as both homeless and mental health respite and drop in options throughout the pandemic ( that would be on top of the additional workloads I was forced to undertake , assisting housing claims and disputes when the local authorities turned into a pack of self preserving villains - those issues I originally contacted you about , unfortunately despite some mild assistances on your part , these matters were dealt with and resolved largely by myself - and what a sense of recognition and reward I ended up in receipt of - it's a good job I'm not a shameless self promoter to the degree of some of my mediocre bar fly contemporaries anyway ) as it was extraordinary timing , off the back of the original Stonehouse mural completed by myself and a Mr Timothy Francis instruction of the subject , that mike vospers friend from the council set up the Plymouth artists together initiative - a separate contribution was delivered by my learning group only to be removed without comment - a disparaging effect for the learners at around this same time nudge paid u believe 8 thousand pounds for a very basic mural delivery at their union corner franchise ( yes it was paid to a local artist ... So , other than the inclination to just swear at you ....what might I suggest in terms of your potential to assist in these matters ( perhaps if you would be so kind as to suggest courses if action within your powers of jurisdiction and oversight that might prove to be assistive in these matters )
Well, I suppose ...it would look quite shameful if you were unable to offer some publicly apparent support for the over all plight
Of course there is grounds for actions at every level of judicial review here , there are civil matters and criminal matters .... Plymouth city council now have a very short amount of time to broach the terms of my proposal for conclusion of these matters without having to instigate immediate court proceedings which will inturn , inherently increase the value of the initial damages claim from the nominal 1.5 million pounds slap on the wrist to an escalated 5.2 million pound penalty ( which is I believe the full annual budget allocated for the delivery if the homelessness provision in the region - and upon award of this amount , immediate efforts would then have to be made to the appoint an efficacious team of staff members to ensure improved delivery and damage control )
Aside from the fiscal penalty levied against the organization for the infringements and loss of earnings and contract tenders to date, that an additional surcharge should be issued to compensate for the scale of personal and professional insult to date - by means if issuing if freehold control and ownership of a suitable trading premises within the city - you know , just in case some strange interdepartmental dispute were to arise a later date that might seek to diminish my capacity to exhibit or trade within the city
I think that some of the issues raised will have to be broached at the dispatch box to bring about the necessary level of harrumphs , that might eventuate in some of the necessary fundamental changes that will have to be implemented here
As previously mentioned , an oversight sight committee will have to be requisitioned and incorporated , an entire department will be required to look into which councilors are related to the CEO of which building firm and or planning officer , a great deal if scrutiny is going to have to be given to the various spokes in the dubiously named homelessness alliance , which if I am correct in my assessment is actually largely funded by the local church network as well as other benefactors....with full transparency and public awareness offered for all expenditures out of funding and favours issued to date

It would seem that despite the haphazard existence that has been salvaged outside of this remarkable personal and professional persecution in my funny little home town , I am able to demonstrate a level of ' high functioning aptitude ' for various disciplines and executions - disciplines and executions that you people , your various departments and skewed and apparently favouritist funding models can't seem to replicate despite the various attempts and wastes of money you have attempted in order to do so
Focus , it would seem , amid this cacophonic epoch of digitally prompted stimuli, nonsense and fleeting fanatics , is hard to maintain at the best of times - regardless of age or advanced state of PTSD

It would appear that the necessary creation of a government funded , independently operational investigative committee and task force to act in unison with the few honourable charity aspects I have identified with throughout this ordeal to offer oversight and scrutiny and where applicable legal actions against this manner of systemic corruption and Mal administration so that these heinous circumstances can be avoided in future
