Collaborations and Innovative Hijinks !

It is often confusing as a line of work .. to try to turn a natural tendency to make and or create things , into a commercially viable vocation .. rattling around cavernous and deserted spaces at odd hours of the day , can give a real surreal note to quite a few days of the working week , and of course more often than not its a solitary process of course ! so it is always nice to do the odd gallery demonstration and joint projects , indeed it is this sense of sharing adventurous projects with fellow human creatures that has aided to such a diverse portfolio over the past few decades ,

I always like to take part in collaborative endeavours and am always delighted when people get in touch about even the most abstract ideas , because even if they aren't immediately feasible then I know that they may turn up later as something to incorporate into a project at alter stage

so regardless of the outline of your proposal, if you have an interesting concept that you would like a little help in direction in order to fully realize its potential ... just give me a shout :)

Maker Heights

At the time of writing I am very sad to report the apparent closure of the Random Arms and Energy Rooms , I am at present unclear as to the precise details of this particular case , highlighting once again the prolific destruction that the corporate age continues to wreak among small communities ... 

However at present it does have to be noted that the Barrack Block continues to operate under the local trust that have been set up to ensure the community asset remains in the hands and at the disposal of the local community , and is used as a local base for several artists and musicians in the area

the Nissun Huts are relics from the military past and now offer workshop spaces and a pretty wonderful little café

I have t admit its a much nicer visit on a sunny day , but come rain or shine there is something to see , from te spectacular sea views overlooking Plymouth sound and whitsand bay , to the open artists studios offering all manner of local arts and crafts

whether you are just popping out for a daytrip from Plymouth or visiting from further afield

'' It was 2 in the morning when I finaly arrived back in NDSM in the wonderfully bizarre city of Amsterdam , with an amassed stock of such variety as to boggle even my diversified thought patterns , and at the very last moment I had a change of heart , an epiphany almost !! you see it has been a slow dawning realization , one that I have been toying with for sometime now ... and I thought as I sat and smoked a cigarette and considered my ' well planned expo ' that perhaps ....instead of all of us producers vying for the ever diminishing custom , of an ever absent 1% , .... we should be trying to do something different ''..... so hop on over to NDSM and have a look at my last minute change of plans ...manifested into one of the most unusual( yet hopefully poignant ) installations I have ever created 

the exhibition runs for three weeks in NDSM and there are a few outside venues and collaborative efforts that will coincide quite nicely ..... contact for info x

Z by V ( Zodiacs by Valerio ) are this years little 'mini-Art by Valerio series'  for the frugal art collector ;)

'' I hate that everyone always thinks that art is so inaccessible , so unaffordable ... it was one of many reasons that I stopped doing prints entirely, and instead decided to offer very small releases of these little painting exercises and the original sketchbook pages .... everyone offers prints !! and I just thought as I was wandering through a ' managed forest ' one day ... I wonder how much of this is going to turn into business cards ?? and what followed was a cascade of mental imagery that simply stumped me .... so no I wont be offering you a business card , or a limited edition print ... these days everything I produce is 100% guaranteed to have been conceptualised / designed / and produced by hand , by me .... and I like the integrity of that these days .... I think there should be more of that ! ''

The Tiffany Gallery , Higher Market Street East Looe Cornwall , 

its been a few years since I have spent a summer in the Tiffany Gallery with my old friend Tom ... 

'' Tiffany Gallery ... Kooky , Quant , and wonderfully tiny and my longest uk collaborator 

well what can be said abut the Tiffany Gallery in that little fishing village ( ahem ) in Cornwall

Here you will find the owner Tom McCracken who runs his Art Gallery Like Bernard Black runs his bookshop.( british sitcom ' blackbooks ' reference ).....and love it or loath it .... here is a guy that has literally worked everyday for the past 33 years with intense gusto , not just worked but actively and actually manned the little gallery that has been the longest running and most consistent gallery in the town ... maybe for quite some radius

and during those 35 years Tom has distributed over 100,000 of his own original watercolour artworks to almost every country around the world creating such a body of work that any self respecting artist should be quite envious of ...... originally beginning his career in the porcelain painting and varnishing workshops of Royal Daulton ....toms quick impressionist style and wonderful palette mixes in the typical wet on wet method ...have been captivating tourists for literally decades. as well has his own works you will find the widest selection of original paintings ( not prints ) by local artists and international artists alike 

When I originally pissed of my mother in Law to the extent that she nearly shut me down!! the first time I was nearly shut down ! or was it the second ?? ( jeez it really has been a mental decade !!), if it wasn't for wonderful little independent galleries like the tiffany gallery ... I may well have given up painting all together then and there.so get along to see the old git and ask why he doesn't sell more of my stuff ; )

but thankfully I will be stopping by to see the old git and making a few ha ha , shall we say '' guest appearances '' for some live painting demos , Talks and documentary screenings in conjunction with our wonderful collaborations with local guest houses, boat trips , fishing trips  and arts facilities which enable the artby Valerio ''Art B&B '' creative holiday packages right here on the Beautiful Cornish coast during the beautiful summer months  x 

15 Year Anniversary ?? Cornish Buddies !!

someone sent me a link the other day of an online auction where some of the original ' Cornish Buddies ' t- shirts had sold for over $100 Dollars each !!! they are apparently something of an offbeat collector item now !!

and I am pretty sure that it was at about this time that I has producing a few of these little cartoons at trade fairs and sales, ... all of them coining from the original sketchbook notation ( which later became a small poster in the gallery window )   ' if bush were Bud .... even I wouldn't smoke it '

Originally I started doing these little handdrawn cartoons at carboot sales and trade fairs, and they were really rather popular ... especially the '' Hemps Angels '' at classic car and motorcycle conventions , and '' Bud-ist '' was great at festivals

for a very short while I decided to do a '' limited edition '' print run on t-shirts and sell them at festivals, which although being a lot of fun , cemented in me the notion that these festivals aren't what they once were .... even the ones that are designed to look like they are, this, coupled with the dawning notion that the world really does not need another silly t-shirt design right now ...or business plan orientated festival for that matter.... persuaded me to discontinued the line :(
