As festival season approaches ...... ' Rotating the Herd '

The festival fest of uber festivities Remember when Glastonbury and woodstock and the isle of white pop festival were benchmark occasions .... in some instances they were actually callings and/or happenings to the extent that people who didn't even have a ticket came along fast forward a couple of decades and the 90's sort of took place and reading festival and a few others started popping up for those who felt that their genre of music or branding weren't being represented in the mainstream festival festivities Fast forward another decade or two and I really don't think you culd throw a stick without it landing in the overlapping perimeters of some half baked poorly headlined gathering or another where the happenings of the past were about inclusion about community and a new generation casting off the societal expectations of their predecessors and attempting to forge a new way , now we have mtv crashing places fucking advertisement saturated coca cola sipping MTV ...... Jeremy bloody Corbyn appearing on the pyramid stage .... and even bloody lu lu supposedly headlining the most local of the local festivals in my parish this summer ( and correct me if I am wrong .... but no one really wanted to see lu lu even when she was on the radio in a contemporary fashion in her own era ) but hey who doesn't still want an excuse to be charged hundreds of pounds to attend a space that has free access the whole rest of the year ?? who doesn't want to get all covered in glitter or battery operated devil horns / rainbow flags ..... and what used to be referred to as vintage clothing , while paying through the nose for some hearty ' vegan ' nutrition from the back of some burnouts van ( but only because that burn out paid all the applicable fees and insurances ) well me actually ...... I have no interest these days in listening to some millennial lost soul in a mankini spouting some guff rumi quote about how its all going to be fine and dandy if we just love each other a bit more !!! ( and hey I am all for the love ) just not the semi diluted with a solution of mandi / ketamine and coke spoused by some halfwit with more student debt than acumen, whose parents probably brought the festival ticket for by selling insurance or as acting as some ghost in one of our failing administrations ..... no .....nope ..... sorry but no dice Aldous Huxley's book a brave new world is brought up as a common reference to todays ' culture ' ahem ....... and I think with good reason , although most would site the Orwellian matrix of the artistically represented society as being the main noteworthy topic .... personally I think its in the lesser mentioned connotation of the book ..... the hippy reservations that our main character comes from ..... that is what for me at least holds the darkest and starkest example of what is really at stake from all of this revenue driving ( and collecting ) revelry ...... you can be as free as you want , just so long as you have brought the ticket ........oh dear x

101 Reasons to Choose a Vocation in the Creative Industries

Valerio's 'In - Steadman' Cartoons illustrated book to be released later this year x

A little over a while ago I started to produce these little autobiographical cartoons in my sketchbooks as I was going about my day to day business to act as a kind of diary record, then some years later I held an Exhibition ' My Back Pages ' during which several of my sketchbooks went on public display and over all were very well received, the common and recurring interest was largely concerning the ' cartoons ' . I have subsequently re drawn and exhibited the original series of cartoons and time again the reception for these little footnotes has been excellent.

In Light of the independent success of the 'In- Steadman' Cartoons I am very pleased to announce the forthcoming Release of ' 101 reasons to choose a career in the creative industries -A series of autobiographical cartoons . In - Steadman ' by me Valerio hooray ! This coffee table masterpiece will feature as the title suggests over 100 cartoons from the ' In - Steadman ' series, along with background stories and anecdotes that might just change your understanding of the creative process.

At the moment it looks as thought we will have a launch date for the end of 2015 but we will keep you posted ! x

From the Architecture by Valerio Collection

Featuring my own ' Green Star House ' both the modular and family community dwellings in the foreground with a rendition of my own ' Mile Wide City ' both designs were coined after considerations regarding conventional spatial allocations, and the inherent flaws in contemporary considerations for spatial allocations based on minimum requirements.

This image gives a hypothetical impact example of alternative design and construction methods, the view is from Sharpitor in Dartmoor national park with Burrator reservoir and sheeps tor in the middle ground and the mile wide city sited exactly over the urban footprint of Plymouth in Devon, U.K.

The Signature Style

Part of the ongoing body of works that have been come to be known as ' the Valerio Signature Style ' that has now come to encompass independent sub headings within the genre, including , ' The mandalas ' , ' The Orgy Balls ' , ' Studies of the Female Form ' , ' Cerebral ' and ' Unorthodox'

A manner of works I began working on as a child , to attempt to keep away from over embellishing them or over anthropomorphising or patterning , just to stay in the most grounding earthy tones and let the mind wander through the undulations to assist in the firing of the imagination

After studying at Plymouth College of Art and Design, Valerio continued his studies at Sheffield Hallam University and Greenwich University and West Kent College.

Now based between his studio in Cornwall and Amsterdam, he is able to collaborate with some of the best known names in Art and Architecture on an international scale as well as here at home in the south west.

Valerio Describes his own work as ' dreamlike manifestations, evoking less than circumstantial references to archetypal memories of landscapes, and local geographies, figurative studies and all in between that which is captured in the veld of the diverse experiences that make up a lifetime.'

Valerio has been a keen art student. he has made excellent progress, demonstrating an imaginative and innovative response to a variety of stimuli, and has produced some outstanding units of course work.

Valerio has improved his ability to draw from observation with increasing skill and enjoys working in a variety of media, he has shown ability to draw from experience and imagination. Valerio has produced paintings of unusual quality, and shows a real awareness of the use of colour. His heightened critical awareness of other artists and cultures is an integral and successful aspect of his own work and he works well independently. What do you make of the artist as a person?

Valerio , the man is a Raving Maniac, A genuine charicature of what an artist should be, hes eloquent and polite soft spoken and gentile , unless he is working on something of particular focus then he can be irritable , and unreasonable , never knowing if he is about to burst into song , or scream and shout a series of profanities against whatever is vexing him most at the time, even visitors to the gallery , ever outspoken and provocative toward debate, the constant array of models and well wishers that tend to come with the Artists Gallery appearances , can make even a quiet day seem lively!

Elusive is something of an understatement with this Artist and appearances are Rare as are his lectures and public exposures but a keen collaborator you will find the signature Valerio influence in many places you really wouldnt be expecting to find it, A very strong talent for such a young Artist already exhibiting his well developed style so that it is instantly recognizable, a Talent and a Character rapidly gaining in influence and popularity, and deservedly so!

101 Reasons....

From the series of sketchbook illustrations that eventually became the published book of illustrations ' 101 Reasons to choose a vocation in the creative industries ' the original series started out as a series of autobiographical sidenotes in my working sketchbooks, a clear homage to the work of Ralph Steadman and Hunter Thompson, are little cartoons I have been doing during those moments when you say to yourself ' what the actual F**k ??!!' which can happen a lot in this job !! the original set of sketchbook thumbnails were each revised for the publication and have always proved a great hit in their own right whenever they have gone on display at exhibition . Now in the 11th year of ongoing production, the series now consists of over 200 hundred images depicting recollections or reflections from Working Corporate positions in 2000 -my first pop up gallery ' The Arts Hole in Cornwall '2006- 'The Green Star House ' Design and build Project 2009- through the political and legal battles of the 'Valerio Institute'2013- to our most recent projects of ' Why Not ' in Amsterdam and the latest ART B&B and education projects running in parallel in Cornwall u.k and Amsterdam N.L 2016/2017 It Really has been quite a ride
